Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County has started a neighborhood beautification initiative called “A Brush with Kindness”. Through this program low-income homeowners who (1) live within a 350-foot “halo” of newly constructed Habitat for Humanity homes, (2) are in need of minor home repairs or enhancements, and (3) are willing to partner with Habitat for Humanity can apply to receive assistance. The mission of this program is to enhance the quality of life for the community surrounding Habitat for Humanity homes by offering home improvement services to qualifying non-Habitat for Humanity families.
“A Brush with Kindness” aims to serve Habitat neighbors impacted by age, disability, family circumstances, and/or financial hardships struggling to maintain the exteriors of their homes. The purpose of A Brush with Kindness is to address basic maintenance needs, create noticeable change in our neighborhoods, build relationships, and build a sense of community.
“A Brush with Kindness” provides services such as painting, caulking, landscaping, minor repairs, and exterior clean-up. We use volunteers, donated paint and donated materials to make exterior improvements, helping low-income neighbors reclaim their homes with pride and dignity. This program provides a unique opportunity to enable us to offer more services, serve more families, increase opportunities for volunteers, and spread the impact of our mission.
We are currently seeking volunteers for the “A Brush with Kindness” program. There is no minimum skill level requirement. If you, your school group, your company, or your church would like to volunteer for a workday, please contact Michelle Morales, Volunteer Coordinator.
Team Leaders are also needed for the “A Brush with Kindness” program. Team Leaders organize and prepare their team of volunteers for the task of working on a home. They will also help coordinate the work and supplies of the project by working closely with the Volunteer Coordinator. Experience in working with groups and/or skill in painting or landscaping is especially needed.
