A Brush with Kindness Fact Sheet

·   Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County is beginning a new neighborhood improvement program called A Brush with Kindness (formerly called Build a Home AND Build a Neighborhood).

·   A Brush with Kindness serves homeowners who live within a 350-foot “halo” around our Habitat for Humanity homes and are struggling day-to day to maintain the exteriors of their homes.  The improvements made create a beautifying “halo effect” to the neighborhood. 

·   A Brush with Kindness focuses on exterior home improvement services such as painting, caulking, landscaping, minor repairs, and exterior clean-up.

·   Homeowners served through A Brush with Kindness are required to recruit at least half of the volunteers needed to accomplish the work.

·   A Brush with Kindness aims to serve low-income neighbors impacted by age, disability and family circumstances who are selected based on need and willingness to partner.

·   A Brush with Kindness uses donated paint and materials to make improvements to the exteriors of homes, helping low-income neighbors reclaim their homes with pride and dignity. 

·   Volunteers for A Brush with Kindness may be 14 years of age or older.

·   Volunteers are asked to work a minimum shift of 4 hours.  Groups can consist of up to 15 individuals.  

·   In general, A Brush with Kindness will take place on Saturdays starting at 9:00 a.m.

·   A Brush with Kindness is locally sponsored and funded by the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties.  All paint is donated by the Valspar Corporation and tinted by Lowe’s Home Improvement Store.

·   Your local “A Brush with Kindness” is part of Habitat for Humanity International’s broader Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative that will enable us to offer more services, serve more families, increase opportunities for volunteers, and spread our mission.
