About Us

The 59th richest county in the U.S., Palm Beach has its notorious side. Yet Palm Beach County ranks as one of Florida's neediest. Ninety percent of the local workforce can't afford to buy a median-priced home in Palm Beach County. Most Palm Beach residents couldn't afford to buy their own home at today's prices.

At Habitat for Humanity, we see this need first hand, as the number of applications for housing increases. Discussions with other organizations verify the continual requests for help.  Sociological theory states that food, clothing, and shelter are the three most basic human needs.  It is our goal to provide simple and decent shelter for the working poor of our communities, and eliminate substandard housing one house at a time.

Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County has developed a strategic plan and the following are its main components:

  • Create a momentum in the South Palm Beach Community that educates citizens, politicians and corporations about how their time, talents and treasures can help us meet our mission and benefit the community at large.
  • Maintain existing financial resources and create an opportunity to develop and cultivate new resources including both private and public funding while utilizing Habitat for Humanity International’s resources to our advantage.
  • Secure land through any appropriate means to create a perpetual inventory that will allow us to meet and/or exceed our future building goals.
  • Develop and cultivate home building opportunities that include various forms of home styles, structures and ownership.
  • Develop strategies to maintain home affordability for our target audience.

Our goal is to complete 10 homes during our July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010 fiscal year. We hope to be able to achieve this goal by increased cooperation with local Community Land Trusts.  Our goals are based on the annual Collegiate Challenge, where college students from 4 to 5 universities spend their spring break on a Habitat for Humanity building blitz during 4 weeks starting in February; increased volunteer labor from corporate, community, and faith-based groups; and increased fundraising activities.
